POSTED / UNPOSTED

A Nordic Letterpress Collarboration

POSTED / UNPOSTED

ABOUT:
POSTED / UNPOSTED
is the first Nordic Letterpress Collaboration, a book art project from the Nordic countries (Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden) with special emphasis on letterpress printing. The project’s aim was to create a network and a focus for letterpress and book art practices, which are not so widely utilised in this part of Northern Europe.

Twenty five artists, poets, printers and publishers who use (or have the potential to use) letterpress printing techniques were invited to contribute to this collaboration with constraints. The constraints are as follows: all work must contain an element of letterpress, be contained within a standard C5 (229 x 162 mm) envelope and printed in an edition of forty. Envelope and content were to be considered as equally important parts of the art works. The box measures 26.5 x 18.5 x 6.5cm

Participants:
Lina Nordenström, Richard Årlin, Göta Svensson, Jim Berggren, Nina Bondeson, Barbro Ravander,
Tova Fransson (SE), Sakari Männistö,  (FIN), Imi Maufe, Ane Thon Knutsen, Johan Solberg, Jostein Sandersen, Ottar Ormstad, Tina Jonsbu, (N), Svends bibliotek (Jesper Palm, Anne Marie Ploug, Nina Maria Kleivan, Hjördis Haack, Viba Bredahl, Carina Zunino), Bent Kvisgaard, Mette Ambeck (DK), Leifur Ýmir Eyjólfsson, Birna Einarsdóttir (IS), Edward Johnson (Åland)

POSTED / UNPOSTED was co-ordinated by Imi Maufe (Norway) and Lina Nordenström (Sweden) and collated at Grafiverkstan Godsmagasinet, Sweden. It was launched at the Bergen Art Book Fair in 2017 and has since been touring to various international galleries and book fairs. In the spring 2019, POSTED/ UNPOSTED ++ travelled to the San Francisco Center for the Book in the United States.

We used the Wikipedia's definition of Letterpress (boktrykk in Norwegian)
'Letterpress printing is a technique of relief printing using a printing press, a process by which many copies are produced by repeated direct impression of an inked, raised surface against sheets or a continuous roll of paper. A worker composes and locks movable type onto the press, inks it, and presses paper against it to transfer the ink from the type which creates an impression on the paper.
In practice, letterpress also includes other forms of relief printing with printing presses, such as wood engravings, photo-etched engravings and zinc plates, and linoleum blocks, which can be used alongside metal type, or wood type, in a single operation, as well as stereotypes and electrotypes of type and blocks. With certain letterpress units it is also possible to join movable type with slugs cast using hot metal typesetting. In theory, anything that is "type high" can be printed using letterpress.'
